Will people use Google OpenSocial? Yes.
Facebook is a limited platform with limited resources. MySpace is a less-limited platform with more resources. Google has an “open” platform and has huge resources. Google has already dealt massively with growth issues–one that Facebook is only beginning to deal with. My prediction is that Google’s OpenSocial will outgrow facebook AND myspace application usage by the end of next year (2008). Facebook and MySpace have notoriety, but Google’s got more.
In the end it’s better for the “consumer” either way–more competition means a better product, and that’s good for everyone. Choice drives innovation, and hopefully in this case, trust in Google will lead to a great product that lots of people use. Do no evil indeed.
